The crossing is welcome but the approach is difficult to navigate. Cyclists do not ride in right-angles, they ride in curves, and so the approach should be curved. And the buttons can be difficult for someone on a cargo bike to reach without nosing into the road.

Road environment:
Problem
151594 Photo #151594

These typical TFGM crossings are better than nothing but the controls are very difficult to see while cycling and the layout is difficult for a cyclist to navigate. Also, pedestrians and cyclists should not have to cross the road in stages.

While this is a welcome addition on this new road, the shared footway is too narrow. Valuable space has been taken by the armco on the left, which should really be on the right, taking space from the carriageway. If the barrier was on the right, it would also offer some protection to pedestrians and cyclists.

A typical sight throughout Britain - if a car can't drive along it, let's not bother looking after it. This could be part of a good route between Tyldesley and Bolton but its poor condition renders it an unattractive proposition. Further along from here the surface is comprised of setts, in good condition (but uncomfortable).

Looks like Wigan council didn't get the memo about greater manchester investing in cycle infrastructure. I genuinely didn't know these were cycle lanes until now. My shoulders are wider.

Here's a tip, if you can't fit the bike picture in the lane, it's not wide enough. t.co/2ateabHfG2

A dangerous toucan crossing near Saddle junction. The button on the right controls the first carriageway, but you have to stop in the island and press another button to stop traffic in the other carriageway. The crossing looks as though the button controls traffic from both directions. Someone will be killed here if this is not fixed. The button should stop ALL traffic.

The A38 heading North from Wigan offers a nice wide road with a cycle lane that is continuously blocked by parked cars rendering the lane unusable. The parking is mostly from properties where homeowners choose to park on the road rather than use their drives for ease and convenience. This contravenes the Highway Code that states that you should only park on a dashed cycle lane if it's unavoidable. Unable to use the cycle lane, children from Wigan on their way to Standish High school are forced to either ride further out in traffic, or illegally on the pavement or to give up and catch the bus.

Other:
Problem
75841

An exceedingly short bike lane alongside a traffic lane too narrow to actually take a car. As can be seen from the tyre marks on this stretch of road, all vehicles travelling through here have to drive in the cycle lane. There is no room to drive anywhere else especially with buses coming the other way waiting to turn into the Bus station. Any cyclist using this cycle lane is at risk from motorists who attempt to pass in their narrowed lane.
